Sign here, and here and initial here

We wrestled for a while with what to do about our house.  After our second ankle biter was born in 2010 we started to really think about wanting more space.  Notice I said wanting not needing.  Reality is we don't NEED it...we just really want it.  I don't have a master ensuite and frequently shower with Barbie mermaid, 3 rubber ducks and a Dora play castle at my feet.  I want to shower in a grown-up shower with big jars of handmade soap from Etsy (Oooooh like this one from TwoTreesSoapCo )and fluffy white cotton balls.

Just as we were about to sign papers for our new house when I discovered the new season of Sarah's House on HGTV.  No bloody way! she is buying a new house and giving it her signature style with Tommy.

So...what are we here for.  Well the first thing I've been learning about building a new house is talk to everybody you can who has also built about tips tricks and ideas because everyone has a new idea that you never thought of.

What I intend to do is lay it all out there.  The selection process, the build, and the fun part, the decorating.  Now, my budget and Sarah's budget are a little different...she has $100k on her show and I have $0.  We will be choosing upgrades but won't have much left for decor.  It's a good thing my husband and I both like modern/industrial these days.  I'll likely have to live on kijiji and do lots of DIYing.

Current house 1800 sq ft, raised bungalow with 3 bedrooms
New house 3316 sq ft, 4 bedroom, 2 story plus loft

We are moving 20 minutes further away from the city of Toronto which means our new house will cost just a bit more than our current house and with better mortgage rates we'll end up with basically the same mortgage payments as now.  Yay

I'm just dying to get over to our builders decor centre and it happens to be located right down the street from me.  They are going to be sooooo sick of me :)

Tonight's plan is to finish work, take kids to swimming lessons put the youngest to bed then head off to the decor centre before they close at 9pm.
